Description
ELK city public schools school safety improvement initiative ELK city public schools recognizes that school, student and staff safety is paramount to providing a safe, effective learning environment for all students. With this in mind, ecps has used standard school safety practices and coordination with our local police department to ensure our students are safe and protected to the best of our ability. However, the district sees opportunities for enhancement of several key components of our safety systems that we believe the svpp grant can help US improve. Listed below are the components of this improvement initiative and short descriptions of each component, along with estimated costs. Intercoms - $250,000 the intercom systems in three of our buildings are antiquated and no longer in production. These vital security systems are constantly at risk of being rendered inoperable by the simple passage of time. New intercom systems would include panic buttons teachers can use to make emergency calls to the school office and the police department. Door access controls - $200,000 our primary current system is no longer in production by the vendor who created IT. We will replace the current system and expand IT to many other doors in the district as well. This would allow for centralized management of all access control in the district. Fencing - $75,000 areas of fencing at some of our schools are either non-existent or in disrepair. For instance, our middle school is in the middle of a neighborhood. Oftentimes, in the middle of a school day, people from the neighborhood will walk across our campus. This is an obvious security issue and one we can help deter with some new fencing. Other areas include our intermediate school campus that needs fencing replaced. Cameras - $50,000 the district has areas of our campuses that are lacking in security camera coverage. This money would also allow US to expand our storage capabilities and add high resolution cameras to areas where those things are needed. Exterior lighting - $25,000 adding exterior lighting at two or our campuses (middle school and intermediate school).
