Description
Logansport community school corporation (lcsc) is the lead applicant for this project, serving 4,274 students and 316 full time educators pre-k-12 at seven campuses in the city of logansport, indiana, in cass county, which is the county seat. IT is located in rural indiana and lies approximately 75 miles north of the greater indianapolis metropolitan area. As a recipient of this grant, logansport community school corporation, along with its partner, the logansport police department, will install a security system upgrade to its seven campuses: logansport community high school (9-12), logansport junior high school (7 & 8), logansport intermediate school (5-6), columbia elementary school (k-4), franklin auxiliary site (alternate highschool/adult ED), fairview elementary school (pre-k-4) and landis elementary school (pre-k-4). Considered the most critical safety issue for the district at this time, this upgrade will install a new and updated video security system and access control system to fully protect students at all locations. At the current time, our security system is incomplete, leaving students highly vulnerable to illegal entry and possible attack. As a grant recipient through this competition, logansport community school corporation will be able to fulfill the intended direction of our safety and security plan and complete system upgrades for all seven campus locations by doing the following: (1) installing security camera upgrades at all seven schools, which will enable remote access and real time monitoring for the logansport police department/911 dispatch. We currently have exacqvision video servers and cameras in all schools. There are nearly 300 cameras across our district, but we are still lacking outside and inside coverage. We do not have effective outside door cameras at our main entrances that allow US to see who is entering. (2) door security/upgraded access with sensors. The current system is incomplete, leaving two of our seven campuses open to illegal entry. Through receipt of these funds, lcsc will add card access to all buildings. We currently have a basic traditional key system on the two unsecured campuses. There are many loose keys out in the community, as community members have always had access to the gymnasium for baseball and soccer practice. The climate has changed, and this unscheduled, spontaneous use of the facilities must obviously cease, opting for predetermined, monitored time slots. Our administration building was recently used as a pilot for a cloud-based badge system which has been a huge success, and our intent is to extend this system to all school campuses, thus ending the flawed key system. Lscs has a safety committee composed of administrators who are indiana certified school safety specialists, school security officers (sros) and other staff who attend annual safe schools training. Our corporation is a member of the cass county safety committee. The committee meets annually and is composed of representatives of other schools in the county and members of police and sheriffs departments. Topics discussed at meetings include current trends in school safety concerns, reunification tactics, and secured entry. These organizations are completely on board for the lscs campus upgrades.
