Description
The purpose of this project is to implement evidence-based security best practices and technology to improve safety and security at the school, partner with local assets to advance our goals of community-oriented policing, and prioritize school climate improvement efforts, student well-being, and the facilitation of a positive learning environment. Key partners include aamsco identification services, REI, schlage, dacus fence, white river, telebooth, INC., pramantha group, the mccrory police department, woodruff county sheriffs office, arcare, the mccrory fire department, house representative crawford, and an overwhelming number of students, parents, and guardians. Beneficiaries of this initiative include students, faculty, and neighbors in territories served by MSD in woodruff county, arkansas. Our goals and intended outcomes of the project are to 1) establish and maintain more collaborative and effective partnerships with all proximal assets in pursuit of community-oriented policing efforts, 2) improve msds safety- and security-related capabilities and response procedures, 3) prevent and reduce the number of incidents that occur on and near school grounds, and 4) cultivate an environment that is conducive to learning and to the benefit of the student experience. In an effort to actualize these goals and outcomes, we will use the funds, if awarded, for the following primary activities: 1) management and coordination: by leveraging the expertise of credentialled security subject matter experts at pramantha group to conduct initial and ongoing threat/risk vulnerability analyses and revise/update msds emergency crisis plan and other safety- and security-related policies and procedures, we aim to ensure all improvement efforts are addressing relevant issues using proven, up-to-date, evidence-based solutions. Similarly, effective coordination with all local assets and stakeholders will cultivate a sense of ownership among the community and improve the effectiveness of partnerships and response capabilities. 2) security infrastructure: the placement and expert use of surveillance and access control infrastructure will provide the means to maintain safety, security, and control over the campus grounds both proactively and in the event of an emergency. Also, the installation of fencing will provide the means to restrict visual access into areas such as playgrounds while channeling pedestrian traffic. We expect a reduction in instances due to the deterring factor of cameras, better response due to the ability to monitor an incident while in progress, and a far greater capability of identifying individuals after an incident to determine fault, instigation, etc. These measures will collectively and individually enhance the student experience and contribute to a positive learning environment for all students without contributing to a punitive or prison-like atmosphere in the school or compromising students civil or privacy rights in any way.
