Description

These townships have a combined population of approximately 43000. The six schools in the district serve approximately 4000 students and employapproximately 450STAFF. The project being proposed, school violence prevention program- mass communication project for riverside local school district, would equip the schools with a mass communication system from vocera communications, INC. The WI-FI based system will allow staff to be able to activate the panic system with the touch of a single button. Instantly, the panic team, including on-site law enforcement, will receive notification. This expedites notification of on and off-site law enforcement, allowing for a more rapid response of appropriate personnel. In addition, the system is discrete. There is no overtly obvious radio or telephone communication, increasing safety for staff and students in the immediate area of the threat. As the system is WI-FI based, the current difficulties of radio dead zones in some of the buildings will be negated. The lake county sheriff's office (lcso) is an ongoing partner of riverside LSD. Lcso manages the school resource officer program which provides two fulltime deputy sros and also deputizes, trains and equips the four fulltime school safety officers (SSO) that are employed by riverside LSD. There will be six ssos, allowing for one at each school, by the start of the 2023-2024 school year. The sros and ssos are an integral part of the school safety plan. They will be equipped with the communication devices and will serve as first responders in the event of a catastrophic incident. In addition, the sros, in conjunction with key personnel, will help conduct the comprehensive school safety assessment as mandated for the award.
