THE GOAL OF THE PROJECT IS TO IMPROVE SECURITY FOR THE DISTRICT AND ON SCHOOL GROUNDS THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAMS AND TECHNOLOGY. THE FOLLOWING OBJECTIVES ARE TO BE ACHIEVED BY 9/30/2024: OBJECTIVE 1: IMPROVE EMERGENCY RESPONSE TIME TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS, PARENTS, AND STAFF BY UPDATING THE EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN TO INCLUDE SITE RISK ASSESSMENT FOR EACH SITE, AND COMMUNITY/SCHOOL NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND WHEN COMBINED WITH TECHNOLOGY WILL ENHANCE SCHOOL SAFETY. OBJECTIVE 2: IMPROVE SCHOOL CLIMATE WHILE REDUCING ACTS OF VIOLENCE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, TEACHERS, PARENTS, AND STAFF THROUGH THE USE OF THE CDE SCHOOL CLIMATE TRANSFORMATION DESIGN COLLABORATIVE AND US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONS (USDOE) A GUIDE TO SCHOOL VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENTS: KEY PRINCIPLES FOR SAFE SCHOOLS. OBJECTIVE 3: IMPROVE COORDINATION WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT AND FIRST RESPONDERS IN AN EMERGENCY THROUGH SCHOOL SAFETY COMMITTEE AND I LOVE YOU GUYS STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL PRINCIPLES. OBJECTIVE 4: 100% OF ALL DOORS WITHIN THE K-12 SCHOOL AND BUS BARN WILL HAVE ACCESS CONTROLS INSTALLED. BASELINE: 25% OBJECTIVE 5: 100% OF ALL AREAS WITHIN THE K-12 SCHOOL AND BUS BARN WILL HAVE VIDEO SURVEILLANCE. BASELINE: 75% OBJECTIVES WILL BE ACHIEVED AND MEASURED BY THE COMPLETION OF EACH TASK. THE PROJECT WILL IMPLEMENT THE EVIDENCED BASED PROGRAM 1) SITE ACCESS TO ASSIST WITH THE EMERGENCY OPERATION PLAN IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR FIRST RESPONDERS. 2) US DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONS (USDOE) A GUIDE TO SCHOOL VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENTS: KEY PRINCIPLES FOR SAFE SCHOOLS, THE DISTRICT WILL FORM AN ASSESSMENT TEAM; DEVELOP A TIMELINE; BRAINSTORM HAZARDS, RISKS, AND ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS; RESEARCH AND IDENTIFY THE BUILDINGS VULNERABILITIES; DETERMINE RISK; REPORT FINDINGS; AND REVIEW, REVISE AND REASSESS AS NEEDED. 3) COMMUNITY/SCHOOL NEEDS ASSESSMENT WILL USE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS FORWARD TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE NEEDS ASSESSMENT TO ASSIST WITH IDENTIFYING THE NEEDS WITHIN THE SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY. THE REQUESTED FUNDS WILL BUILD UPON THESE SAFETY MEASURES BY ADDING ACCESS CONTROL TO ALL BUT FOUR EXTERNAL DOORS AS WELL AS ALL CLASSROOMS AND ADDING 16 CAMERAS TO THE OUTSIDE, HALLWAYS, BLIND SPOTS, CAF, GYMS, AND THE BUS BARN. THESE ADDITIONAL CAMERAS WILL ENSURE 100% VIDEO SURVEILLANCE OF THE SCHOOL. REQUESTED FUNDS WILL ALSO ENHANCE THE SECURITY OF SCHOOL BUILDINGS BY ENSURING THAT NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE OFFICE FIRST. THE PROJECT WILL IMPROVE SECURITY FOR CENTENNIAL SCHOOLS AND SECURITY ON SCHOOL GROUNDS THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAMS AND TECHNOLOGY. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL CREATE A DISTRICT EMERGENCY OPERATIONS PLAN TO INCLUDE SCHOOL SAFETY OR THREAT ASSESSMENT, SITE RISK ASSESSMENT FOR EACH SITE, AND COMMUNITY/SCHOOL NEEDS ASSESSMENT TECHNOLOGY WHICH WILL ENHANCE SCHOOL SAFETY. THIS WILL ALL BE DONE IN COORDINATION WITH THE DISTRICTS FIRST RESPONDER PARTNERS - THE COSTILLA SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT, THE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, COSTILLA COUNTY EMS, AND COLORADO STATE PATROL - AS WELL AS SAN LUIS VALLEY BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND VALLEY WIDE HEALTH, THE MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS TO THE DISTRICT.
