Description
Godfrey-LEE public schools (glps), located in wyoming, michigan, seeks funding to enhance school safety and security measures in order to create a safe and effective learning environment for its diverse student population of 1,672 students, of which 85% are hispanic and 50% are english learners. Glps has identified key concerns through a comprehensive site and risk assessment and aims to address these concerns through the proposed project. Godfrey-lees svpp project has the primary goal of improving safety infrastructure and implementing comprehensive security measures. The intended outcome is to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff, reduce potential risks, and support a positive school climate. The funds will be requested to support the following primary activities: enhancing lighting: upgrading lighting throughout all campuses, including the athletic complex, to improve visibility and deter potential threats. Access control: converting all exterior doors at every campus to staff key card access, ensuring controlled entry and reducing the risk of unauthorized access. Visitor monitoring: installing visitor kiosks to monitor and control access to the campus, enhancing security protocols and preventing unauthorized visitors. Emergency alerts: equipping classrooms with flashers to alert teachers and staff in case of an emergency, enabling rapid response and ensuring the safety of individuals on campus. Communication infrastructure: increasing emergency communication capabilities by purchasing a repeater to ensure consistent cellular service at every campus, facilitating effective communication during critical situations. Security upgrades: installing safety door handles, replacement locks, and security systems on the secondary campus to strengthen physical security and mitigate potential risks. Camera system expansion: addressing the shortage and absence of functioning cameras by installing cameras in new areas on the secondary campus, enhancing surveillance capabilities and improving monitoring of suspicious activities. Athletic complex security: fencing the athletic complex and installing automatic motorized gates to prevent unauthorized access, bolstering security measures and ensuring the safety of students and staff utilizing the facility. Key partners in this project include the wyoming police department, school resource officer (SRO), glps's maintenance and operations department, community-based organizations, and other key stakeholders. Through this project, glps aims to create a safe and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically and personally. By collaborating with partners, implementing these security measures, and addressing the identified concerns, glps actively demonstrates its commitment to enhancing school safety and fostering a positive school climate for the benefit of the entire community.
