OUR PROJECT, BOLIVAR (MO) R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICTS SAFETY ENHANCEMENT AND AWARENESS PROGRAM 2023 IS DESIGNED TO MAKE ESSENTIAL UPGRADES IN FIVE STRATEGIC AREAS IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT. THE INTENDED OUTCOME IS TO STRENGTHEN OUR SAFETY INFRASTRUCTURE, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND TECHNOLOGICALLY. THE INDIVIDUALS BENEFITING FROM THIS PROJECT WILL BE OUR STUDENTS, PARENTS, STAFF, BUS DRIVERS, LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY MEMBERS, AND THE ENTIRE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY. THE BOLIVAR R-1 SCHOOL DISTRICT SERVES MORE THAN 2,700 STUDENTS. WE HAVE MORE THAN 400 EMPLOYEES THAT WORK IN 10 BUILDINGS. WE HAVE COLLABORATED WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES, SOCIAL WORKERS, COUNSELORS, BOARD MEMBERS, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS TO STRATEGICALLY IDENTIFY THE BEST SAFETY AND SECURITY IMPROVEMENTS FOR OUR DISTRICT. OUR PROJECT, COUPLED WITH FY23 COPS SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM, ALIGNS WELL WITH OUR DISTRICTS COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CSIP). THE FIRST KEY ALIGNMENT IS IN THE FOCUS AREA OF COLLABORATIVE CLIMATE AND CULTURE. AS WE CONSIDERED THESE OPPORTUNITIES TO STRENGTHEN OUR SAFETY AND SECURITY, WE COLLABORATED WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS TO MAKE STRATEGIC DECISIONS ABOUT THE POTENTIAL AWARD FROM THE FY23 COPS SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM. THE SECOND KEY ALIGNMENT IS IN THE FOCUS AREA OF LEADERSHIP. OUR LEADERSHIP STRATEGY #1 IS TO IMPLEMENT A VARIETY OF BEST PRACTICES TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND CARING LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL STAFF AND STUDENTS. OUR STRATEGIC GOAL IS TO ENSURE THE UTILIZATION A PROFESSIONAL FRAMEWORK FOR DEVELOPING AND PLANNING A COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL SAFETY PLAN. BASED ON THESE TWO KEY FOCUS AREAS, WE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE FOLLOWING WAYS WE INTEND TO USE THE AWARD FROM THE FY23 COPS SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM. WINDOW SECURITY / FENCING UPGRADES WILL WORK TOGETHER TO ALLOW US TO HAVE SECURE PLAYGROUNDS AND WOULD PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS. WE INTEND TO MAKE THESE IMPROVEMENTS IN A CONCENTRATED FOCUS TO HARDEN OUR ENTRANCES AND SLOW DOWN POTENTIAL INTRUDERS. THIS EFFORT WILL INCLUDE THE APPLICATION OF BULLET-PROOF SECURITY LAMINATE ON ALL ENTRANCES AND LARGE EXTERIOR WINDOWS. ANTICIPATED COST: $111,725 A BUILDING DOOR SYSTEM WILL ALLOW US TO CONTROL / RESTRICT ACCESS TO OUR BUILDINGS AND WOULD INCLUDE DOOR-STRIKES, SOUNDERS, DOOR-CONTACTS, AND SOFTWARE. ANTICIPATED COST: $183,115 SECURITY CAMERAS WILL ALLOW US TO HAVE INCREASED COVERAGE IN VULNERABLE AREAS (EXTERIOR DOORS, ENTRYWAYS). OUR CURRENT SYSTEM IS AT ITS END-OF-LIFE WITH NO CAPACITY FOR GROWTH. ANTICIPATED COST: $77,290. A BUS MONITORING SYSTEM WILL ALLOW US TO MONITOR STUDENT BEHAVIORS AND TRACK LOCATIONS. BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS COULD RESPOND IMMEDIATELY TO SAFETY NEEDS ON BUSSES. ANTICIPATED COST: $76,425 EMERGENCY COMMINUTION TOOLS WILL INCLUDE RADIOS, A REPEATER, AND A BASE UNIT THAT WILL ALLOW US TO PLACE OUR BUILDINGS AND BUSSES ON THE SAME COMMUNICATION SYSTEM.
