RHEA COUNTY SCHOOLS (RCS) IS SEEKING FUNDING THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE'S (DOJ) COMMUNITY ORIENTED POLICING SERVICES (COPS) SCHOOL VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM (SVPP) TO ENHANCE SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY MEASURES. RCS IS REQUESTING FUNDING TO INSTALL SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS, ACCESS CONTROLS, AND FENCING TO SECURE SCHOOL BUILDINGS AND ENSURE THE SAFETY OF STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL IMPROVE SCHOOL SAFETY AND REDUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR VIOLENCE IN RCS. RCS WILL USE THE GRANT FUNDS TO INSTALL SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS AT STRATEGIC LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT SCHOOL BUILDINGS, INCLUDING ENTRYWAYS, HALLWAYS, AND COMMON AREAS. THE CAMERAS WILL PROVIDE REAL-TIME MONITORING OF SCHOOL PREMISES, ALLOWING SCHOOL OFFICIALS TO IDENTIFY AND RESPOND TO ANY POTENTIAL THREATS PROMPTLY. ACCESS CONTROLS WILL BE INSTALLED AT ENTRANCES TO PREVENT UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY INTO SCHOOL BUILDINGS. THE ACCESS CONTROLS WILL INCLUDE ELECTRONIC LOCKS, KEY CARDS, AND OTHER MEASURES TO ENSURE THAT ONLY AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL HAVE ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS. FENCING WILL BE INSTALLED AROUND SCHOOL BUILDINGS TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PHYSICAL SECURITY AND PREVENT UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS. THE PROJECT WILL BENEFIT APPROXIMATELY 6,000 STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF IN THE RCS DISTRICT. THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF SCHOOL VIOLENCE AND INCREASE THE SENSE OF SAFETY AND SECURITY FOR EVERYONE IN THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY. RCS IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING A SAFE AND SECURE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS, AND THE PROPOSED PROJECT WILL HELP US ACHIEVE THIS GOAL. THE TOTAL COST OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS $500,000, WITH THE DOJ SVPP GRANT FUNDING 75% OF THE PROJECT COSTS. RCS WILL PROVIDE A 25% MATCH OF $125,000 TO ENSURE THE SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT. IN CONCLUSION, THE RCS COPS SVPP GRANT APPLICATION SEEKS TO PROVIDE ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES FOR THE DISTRICT'S SCHOOLS, INCLUDING SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS, ACCESS CONTROLS, AND FENCING. THESE MEASURES WILL SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE THE RISK OF VIOLENCE AND INCREASE THE SAFETY AND SECURITY OF STUDENTS, FACULTY, AND STAFF. RCS IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING A SAFE AND SECURE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL STUDENTS, AND THIS GRANT WILL HELP US ACHIEVE THIS IMPORTANT GOAL.
