Site and risk assessments are conducted by both members of the school and district safety team, in addition to annual walkthroughs conducted in coordination with the SC school board insurance trust to ensure that schools and facilities are compliant with all codes and regulations governing the onsite safety of students, staff and other visitors in our district. Lexington county school district 3 has a district framework for mtss. The focus of the school and district data teams is to provide regular, ongoing opportunities for staff to analyze both academic and behavioral/social support needed to improve student learning. Additionally, the primary and elementary schools use pbis systems to support positive student behavior. Members of each school safety team are also training in crisis prevention institute (CPI) nonviolent crisis intervention training as part of our district response plan for working with students who are escalated for whatever reason. Threat assessment processes are reviewed at least annually and are updated as needed. Guidance counselor, mental health counselor, SRO, and an administrator are team members. Additional staff such as nurses, teachers, or other staff members who may be known to have a relationship with the student may also participate. The school district has a district safety team that meets once a month. Agendas have topics that include school safety drills, updates from the police, and fire departments. A standing topic on the agenda is threat and risk assessment for the school threat assessment teams procedures, and training. Anytime there is a school shooting or the anniversary of a significant school of shooting, a brief summary of the incident is added to the agenda for all parties to review, remember, and reflect. This proposal is a comprehensive approach that will provide the district substantial assistance in maintaining and enhancing safer schools. The proposal includes integratable mass emergency notification panic button APP integration phone, video surveillance system integrated district wide, mass communication system intercom system, fence gate access control, access control and visitor screening at main entrance, shatter resistant window film, and handheld metal detectors. The items in this proposal will help provide a safer school environment without criminalizing student behavior that is managed with our student code of conduct and school behavior intervention plans. This funding can provide substantial foundational equipment and technology to move our district into a new, safer school culture and environment.
