Description
We are requesting funding for two way radios that will reach across the entire campus and for common key sets that will unify the district under one master set. Currently the high school and middle school buildings alone have three separate cores on interior rooms that date back to 1914. We have requested a quote to unify all of our locks/doors within the district under one interior master and one exterior master. There are three buildings in the cornell school district, one elementary, one middle/high and one athletic building servicing 400 students and 59 teaching, custodial, administrative and support staff. Under the guidance of the cornell area police department and suggestion by our town police chief we determined that under an emergency situation smooth access from place to place is integral in maintaining a safe environment. A homogeneous system of keys and locks are essential for quick space access. Our current keys and core locks are well beyond their useful lifespan. Room access often involves prying and twisting keys into cores that wear down the keys to the point of where they no longer work. We are out of spare cores and parts to the point where some doors are missing locks altogether. Two-way radios working on a non-public and private frequency will allow for US to reach locations in our district where phones do not reach: areas like our athletic building, outside sports facilities and technical education shop. In addition, we will be able to connect both the elementary and middle/high building in the event that phone communications become inoperable. Finally, we will upgrade our phone and intercom system. We are looking to add access to the intercom from any location within the building that has an available phone as well as from a cell phone in the event that an emergency announcementcannot be made by office personnel.
