Description

Recent incidents of school violence have highlighted the need for proactive measures to prevent violence and ensure the safety of students and staff. As the largest school district in the state of georgia, and the one of the top fifteen largest school districts in the country, these challenges are exponentially greater for our district, gwinnett county public schools (GCPS). Our proposal seeks to address these issues by implementing the stop school violence in GCPS program in our local school district. We are submitting this proposal for funding to support the development and implementation of this program. Goals the main goals of our proposal are to: implement the stop school violence in GCPS program in each of the 147 schools in our district to prevent school violence and enhance school safety. Work with the countys law enforcement to train students, teachers, parents, and the community to identify and intervene in potentially violent situations. Develop partnerships with schools, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to promote the program and ensure its effectiveness in a multilingual format. Methodology to achieve these goals, we will use the funding to: the program will utilize a variety of strategies to address school violence, including community policing, community engagement for our diverse, multi-lingual citizens, and student support services. The police department's gang taskforce will work closely with school administrators and staff to identify and address potential threats before they escalate, as well as provide a train-the-trainer model to our community supervisors. Partner with the gwinnett county police departments (GPD) gang taskforce to identify and address potential threats before they escalate. Provide a train-the-trainer model with the GPD to for our community supervisors, who will then provide the training to the entire school district community. Enhance community outreach efforts to educate parents and students about social media awareness, the importance of reporting suspicious behavior, and to encourage them to be vigilant in identifying potential threats. Provide support services for students who have been affected by violence through counseling, mentorship programs, and other resources to help students cope with trauma. Expected outcomes we anticipate that the implementation of the stop school violence in GCPS will have several positive outcomes: improved school safety and security, leading to a more conducive learning environment for students and staff. Increased awareness and readiness among students, teachers, and law enforcement officers to identify and intervene in potentially violent situations. Increased partnerships and collaboration among schools, law enforcement agencies, and community organizations to promote school safety and prevent violence. Increased confidence and trust among parents and community members in the school district's ability to ensure the safety of their children. Conclusion we believe that our proposal addresses an urgent need for proactive measures to prevent school violence and ensure the safety of students and staff. By implementing the district-wide stop school violence in GCPS program, and providing training and support to students, teachers by law enforcement officers, we can help to create safer and more secure learning environments. With your support, we can make this vision a reality and help to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and communities.
