Description
The lodi police department (bergen county, new jersey) is seeking funding from the usdoj cops FY23 law enforcement agency DE-escalation grants-community policing development solicitation to replace its training simulator and related equipment in order to better integrate hands-on training with the existing DE-escalation training curriculum. Based on the DE-escalation training curriculum required by the bergen county prosecutor's office, lodi police officers must supplement this training with hands-on simulations. The project will allow the department of upgrade its software and equipment to significantly enhance scenario-based training for law enforcement officers. This project will include AR technology in support of our efforts to incorporate enhanced training scenarios. The AR glasses provide digital effects and props in the training room that add a greater level of reality (e.g. patrol cars, walls, buildings and even fire, smoke, or rain), and the trainer can manipulate objects to react to the trainee actions, allowing for real-time practice at interacting with bystanders, crowds, and practical application of DE-escalation skills. In addition to lodi police officers, members of our neighboring garfield police department will also have access to the simulator to supplement classroom learning.
