Description
Town of little ELM (TEXAS) proposes several activities designed to establish or enhance DE-escalation efforts including: 1) curriculum development: adopt an evidence-based DE-escalation training curriculum that covers essential topics such as communication techniques, emotional intelligence, situational awareness, and crisis intervention strategies; 2) train-the-trainer program: build in-house expertise, we will send a select group of officers to participate in a train-the-trainer program; 3) regular training sessions: conduct regular training sessions, including initial training and periodic refresher courses, to ensure all officers are well-versed in DE-escalation techniques and their application in the field; 4) apex officer VR/AR system: the immersive training provided by the apex officer system will enable officers to practice these techniques in realistic situations, helping them apply these skills in real-world encounters. The system's analytics and performance feedback will allow US to refine our training and track the progress of our officers; and 5) ongoing evaluation and improvement: they will continuously assess the effectiveness of our training project through performance data, use of force incident reports, and community feedback. This information will guide any necessary adjustments to our training approach.
