Description

The kennewick police department will use lemwha grant funding to increase knowledge through training, increase the accessibility of mental health resources to law enforcement personnel and their families, and decrease the stigma in accessing mental health resources. Kennewick police organize regional trainings to increase the number of trained peer support personnel. Growth in trained peers would increase awareness, offer more support services, and reduce stigma. Kennewick police will offer these trainings free of charge to all law enforcement personnel. The approximate cost of sending an officer out-of-town to receive this internationally recognized training is $2,000. Kennewick police will also use the grant funds to organize advanced peer support training. Kennewick police will collaborate with other regional peer support teams to offer combined team training and pay for certified instructors and/or mental health providers with experience in treating post-traumatic stress injuries.
