Description
The cincinnati police department (CPD) will use lemhwa grant funds to enhance the CPD wellness program to include proactive opportunities for wellness and resilience and partner with researchers to develop evidence-based programming for a healthier cincinnati police department which will strengthen relationships between the community and police. Additionally, CPD will develop and implement a wellness training program for all law enforcement agencies throughout hamilton county and assist with wellness program development with partner agencies. The CPD wellness program will be expanded to include proactive education and awareness, implement ongoing resilience skill building as identified through leading research, and establish clinical oversight to ensure best practices are utilized with peer team responses. CPD will add a research component to the wellness program to evaluate efficacy and guide further development. This research may yield broader implications for evidence-based wellness. Additionally, CPD intends to develop and oversee a regional wellness training program including peer support onboarding as recognized by state law, and a quarterly wellness curriculum. The objective of the training program is to support the hamilton county police association (HCPA) by training, developing, and implementing a regional peer team, critical incident response team, and mental health education curriculum to expand wellness services to all local law enforcement agencies.
