The mission of the youth policy institute (YPI) is to transform LOS angeles neighborhoods using a holistic approach to reduce poverty by ensuring families have access to high quality schools, wraparound education and technology services, enabling a successful transition from cradle to college and career. YPI is the lead implementation partner to the city of LA's promise zone initiative, which aims to transform distressed communities in central LOS angeles by improving education and safety, increasing economic development, creating jobs, and preserving housing affordability. The promise zone project aligns with the cncs programming priority area of economic opportunity, as IT is a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization initiative covering the two cncs objectives in this priority: housing and employment/workforce development. The year 6 goals of the proposed project are to 1) strengthen strategic planning and build capacity in lapz partners; 2) increase community involvement in the lapz; and 3) align lapz evaluation activities. The promise zone will benefit the zone's 165,000 residents, who will be more engaged in their local neighborhood and connected to educational and economic opportunities. YPI requests four vista members and one vista leader, who will build capacity by aligning implementation of the strategic plan; enhancing and sharing data and assessments; supporting governance of the initiative; and improving collaboration for service delivery over a 12 month period.
