About this award

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Stockton received a $1,039,691 Project Grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program (CFDA 64.033), awarded September 30, 2025, with a completion date of September 30, 2026. The organization delivers supportive services to very low-income veteran families in California who are homeless, transitioning to permanent housing, or at risk of housing instability. The grant funds four mandatory core services: outreach, case management, assistance in obtaining VA benefits, and coordination of public benefits. Additionally, Catholic Charities may provide optional temporary financial assistance paid directly to third parties for housing-related expenses including rental assistance, utility payments, security deposits, moving costs, child care, transportation, and emergency housing assistance.

The SSVF Program operates on a housing-first model emphasizing rapid re-housing and permanent housing retention without preconditions. Catholic Charities' service delivery aligns with the program's performance targets of achieving 70 percent permanent housing exit rates and maintaining homelessness return rates below five percent.
