Description

The mission of georgia 4-h is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. This mission is accomplished through "hands on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship. The proposed vista project aligns with the education and capacity building focus areas. The vista project will seek to increase participation of low income youth in research based 4-h programming, which has been shown to improve school performance, community engagement and healthy decision making. Our goal is to engage 300 low-income youth per year, in rural and urban areas across georgia. To increase the capacity of resources to support youth, 6 vista members (4 standard and 2 cost share) will contribute to the goals of this project by performing activities such as developing or expanding funding streams (through grants and sustainable fundraisers) and expanding the volunteer-led clubs (through involvement as club leaders). Newly formed clubs will focus on school readiness, improving student performance, and reduction of summer learning loss.
