This $681,413 project grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration's Economic Adjustment Assistance program will support products and services delivered by the Alaska Mariculture Cluster to boost Alaska's mariculture industry. Led by the Southeast Conference, the Cluster will capitalize a revolving loan fund to facilitate business expansion in mariculture. It will also develop mariculture-focused workforce training programs and provide research funding to grow innovative seaweed and shellfish products. The Coalition will partner with Sealaska, an Alaska Native corporation, to ensure the Cluster's approach centers the priorities of tribal, rural, and underserved communities. This September 2022 award aims to strengthen regional industry clusters in Alaska through equitable economic development, job creation, and enhanced U.S. competitiveness in mariculture globally.
