The County of Monona, Iowa was awarded a $2,646,839 Project Grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration on April 15, 2021. The funding supports barge access infrastructure improvements through EDA's Investments for Public Works and Economic Development Facilities program (CFDA 11.300). This primarily construction-oriented program provides catalytic investments to help distressed communities build critical infrastructure that implements regional economic development strategies. It can reasonably be inferred the County will use the grant funding to design, engineer, and construct barge access facilities, thereby improving regional infrastructure to support water-borne commerce and economic growth opportunities along the Mississippi River.
