The U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded a $1,239,270 Economic Adjustment Assistance (CFDA 11.307) project grant to the City of Hogansville, Georgia, to rehabilitate the vacant Royal Theater in downtown Hogansville. This project aims to reopen the theater for film, stage, and community use in order to bring tenants and jobs to vacant downtown buildings and add employees to existing downtown businesses. The grant funding will assist the region in recovering from the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic and make the local economy more resilient to fluctuations in tourism, thereby increasing employment opportunities, saving jobs, spurring private investment, and advancing economic resilience throughout the region. The city has also received past federal grant funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service Community Facilities grant program, as well as subgrant funding from state agencies such as the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, and Georgia Department of Natural Resources for various community and infrastructure projects.
