DESCRIPTION:THIS ACTION APPROVES AN AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $80,000 TO THE KNOX COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT. THIS AGREEMENT PROVIDES FUNDING UNDER THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT (IRA) TO THE RECIPIENT FOR THE EXPANSION AND ENHANCEMENT OF THEIR AIR MONITORING ACTIVITIES. SPECIFICALLY, THE RECIPIENT WILL ENHANCE MONITORING OF PM2.5 AND OZONE IN A COMMUNITY WITH ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE CONCERNS WHO FACE DISPROPORTIONATE EXPOSURE TO THESE POLLUTANTS AND HEALTH RISKS, WHICH ARE ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH INCREASED VULNERABILITY TO COVID-19.ACTIVITIES:THE ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED INCLUDE REPLACING AN EXISTING WALK-IN MONITORING SHELTER AT SPRINGHILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE THE REPORTING OF EXPENDITURES OF IRA FUNDS AFTER THE COMPLETION OF PROCUREMENT AND/OR TAKING DELIVERY OF AIR MONITORING EQUIPMENT. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE THE OPERATION OF PM2.5 AND OZONE AIR MONITORING IN ACCORDANCE WITH ALL FEDERAL REQUIREMENTS LEADING TO THE COLLECTION OF QUALITY ASSURED AMBIENT AIR QUALITY DATA TO HELP ENSURE THAT MORE AMERICANS ARE LIVING AND WORKING IN AREAS THAT MEET HIGH AIR QUALITY STANDARDS. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES ARE RESIDENTS OF KNOXVILLE COUNTY, TENNESSEE.
