DESCRIPTION:THIS ACTION APPROVES AN AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $536,695 UNDER THE INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND JOBS ACT (IIJA) TO MARIETTA BOARD OF EDUCATION. THIS AGREEMENT IS TO REPLACE EXISTING SCHOOL BUSES WITH CLEAN AND ZERO EMISSION (ZE) SCHOOL BUSES. ACTIVITIES:THE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE REPLACING 15 CLASS 7 DIESEL BUSES WITH 15 PROPANE CLASS 3-6 BUSES. THE NEW SCHOOL BUSES WILL SERVE MARIETTA CITY SCHOOLS. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES INCLUDE 15 REPLACED SCHOOL BUS VEHICLES FOR ONE SCHOOL DISTRICT, 3,240 CHILDREN TRANSPORTED ON PROPANE BUSES RATHER THAN DIESEL, REMOVAL OF DIESEL FUMES FROM SCHOOL ENVIRONMENTS, PROGRESS REPORTS AND A FINAL REPORT, AND DISSEMINATION OF PROJECT INFORMATION VIA SOCIAL AND LOCAL MEDIA. THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE IMPROVED AMBIENT AIR QUALITY IN THE CITY OF MARIETTA, COST SAVINGS FOR FUEL AND MAINTENANCE, INCREASED FUEL ECONOMY IN THE PROPANE BUSES, HEALTH AND AIR QUALITY IMPROVEMENTS TO MARIETTA, INCREASED ASTHMA MANAGEMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH THE CONDITION AND FEWER DAYS MISSED FROM SCHOOL, OVERALL IMPROVEMENT IN STUDENT RESPIRATORY HEALTH, INCREASED PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE PROJECT AND THE DANGEROUS POLLUTANTS EMITTED BY DIESEL ENGINES, AND AN INCREASED EMPHASIS ON THE DISTRICT'S COMMITMENT TO ASTHMA FRIENDLY SCHOOLS. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE MARIETTA CITY SCHOOLS, THE CITY OF MARIETTA, THE LOCAL COMMUNITIES, AND THE 3,240 CHILDREN WHO WILL BE RIDING THE NEW PROPANE BUSES.
