The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 awarded Ketchikan Gateway Borough $332,000 under the Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Program (CFDA 66.448) on July 1, 2025, to enhance the resilience of the borough's drinking water systems to natural hazards. The project, which extends through June 30, 2028, involves the design, procurement, and installation of two backup generator systems: a 60-kilowatt skid-mounted exterior generator set at the Whitman Creek Raw Water Booster Station and a 150-kilowatt skid-mounted exterior generator set at the Mountain Point Water Treatment Plant and Booster Station. No subawards were issued under this assistance agreement.
The project deliverables include design services, equipment acquisition, and full installation of both generator systems to ensure sustained water delivery during periods of power loss. The intended beneficiaries are the general public and residents of Ketchikan Gateway Borough in Alaska. By installing these backup power systems, the project directly addresses the borough's vulnerability to natural hazards and supports the federal program's objective of increasing drinking water system resilience in underserved and small population communities.
