DESCRIPTION:THE PURPOSE OF THIS AWARD IS TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO CHALKYITSIK VILLAGE TO CONDUCT A PROJECT TO IMPROVE THE MANAGEMENT OF HAZARDOUS WASTE.ACTIVITIES:AS PART OF THIS PROJECT, THE CHALKYITSIK VILLAGE WILL 1) REMOVE AND DISPOSE OF THE FREON AND FLUIDS FROM FOUR HEAVY EQUIPMENT/VEHICLES; 2) STAGE AND PACK THE SCRAP METAL ; 3) BACKHAUL THE SCRAP METAL OUT OF THE COMMUNITY; AND 4) DOCUMENT AND SHARE BEST PRACTICES FROM THE PROJECT. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:THE ACTIVITIES UNDER THIS PROJECT WILL BENEFIT AND PROTECT PUBLIC HEALTH BY IMPROVING HAZARDOUS WASTE MANAGEMENT IN THE CHALKYITSIK VILLAGE COMMUNITY, AND RESULT IN A CLEANER, HEALTHIER, ENVIRONMENT.
