DESCRIPTION:THE PURPOSE OF THIS ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE SMALL GRANT IS TO ESTABLISH AN EMPOWERING, SCHOOL CURRICULUM-INTEGRATED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS PROPELLING THEIR AWARENESS OF PROBLEMS LIKE CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE INJUSTICES THEY CREATE. PROJECT ACTIVITIES INCLUDE LEARNING ABOUT THE ANIMAL, MINERAL, AND PLANT KINGDOMS AND HOW THEY INTERACT AND DEPEND ON ECOSYSTEMS; AND DELVING INTO THE LAWS OF NATURE REGARDING THE MOVEMENT OF LIGHT, WATER, WIND, AND SOIL. EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE AN INCREASED SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT; INCREASED CONSERVATION OF RESOURCES AT HOME AND SCHOOL; AND A FRAMEWORK FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF LOUISIANA'S (ISL'S) CURRICULUM ADVISOR AND TEACHERS FOR THEIR THIRD-GRADE SCIENCE PROGRAM, WHICH CAN BE REPLICATED FOR OTHERS. DIRECT BENEFICIARIES ARE STUDENTS LIVING IN NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, ZIP-CODES 70130 AND 70114. ACTIVITIES:ACTIVITIES TO BE PERFORMED INCLUDE PREPPING MATERIALS AND TRAINING STAFF ON TEACHING RESPONSIBLE EARTH EDUCATION'S LOST TREASURE CURRICULUM, PILOTING THE CURRICULUM WITH THIRD GRADE STUDENTS, AND EVALUATING THE SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION. PROJECT ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE CURRICULUM INCLUDE 50 VISITS OVER 16 WEEKS TO TEACH STUDENTS ABOUT THE ANIMAL KINGDOM AND ANIMAL CHARACTERISTICS, FACILITATING INTERACTIVE CHALLENGES WITH STUDENTS ABOUT ANIMAL SIMILARITIES, AND TAKING STUDENTS ON FIELD TRIPS TO REINFORCE LEARNING.SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:EXPECTED OUTCOMES INCLUDE AN INCREASED SENSE OF RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT; INCREASED CONSERVATION OF RESOURCES AT HOME AND SCHOOL; AND A FRAMEWORK FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF LOUISIANA'S (ISL'S) CURRICULUM ADVISOR AND TEACHERS FOR THEIR THIRD-GRADE SCIENCE PROGRAM, WHICH CAN BE REPLICATED FOR OTHERS.
