THE STUDENTS FOR SALMON PROGRAM IS A MULTI-STAGE WATERSHED EDUCATION PROGRAM, WHICH INCLUDES LEARNING BOTH OUTDOORS AND, IN THE CLASSROOM TO BUILD STUDENTS' UNDERSTANDING OF HEALTHY SALMON HABITAT. THE PROGRAM IS SUPPLEMENTED BY A PROFESSIONAL CURRICULUM COMPRISED OF FIVE UNITS. THE UNITS ARE TAUGHT IN COORDINATION WITH THE CLASSROOM AND OUTDOOR WORK. THE FIELD TRIPS LED BY 10 UNIVERSITY INTERNS ARE TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE OPPORTUNTIY TO CONDUCT STREAMSIDE RESTORATION PROJECTS TO IMPROVE CONDITIONS. THE PROGRAM WILL REACH AROUND 1,600 FOURTH GRADE STUDENTS IN PUBLIC, PRIVATE, TRIBAL, AND ALTERNATIVE WHATCOM COUNTY SCHOOLS.
