This $12,055,840 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 under the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) National Grants program (CFDA 66.039) will fund Drive Clean Indiana, Inc., a nonprofit organization, to undertake extensive diesel emissions reduction efforts in the Midwest. The key activities include the replacement of 20 pieces of outdated diesel-powered trucks and off-road equipment, such as garbage trucks, drayage trucks, tractors, dredges, cranes, and a forklift, with cleaner alternatives including all-electric, propane, compressed natural gas, and low-NOx liquefied petroleum gas technologies. This will result in significant reductions in particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions, achieving an annual emissions reduction of 0.443 short tons of PM2.5 and 9.037 short tons of NOX. The project aims to benefit disadvantaged and overburdened communities in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
