Description
- Description
- The purpose of this cooperative agreement is to provide funding to health resources in action to conduct their ''expanding the healthy air network across new england' project. These funds will be used to provide mini-grants and air quality (AQ) sensors to five community-based organizations (cbos), faith-based organizations (fbos) and/or municipalities in vermont, maine, rhode island, connecticut and/or new hampshire where residents experience disproportionate challenges related to environmental exposures, racial and health disparities, socioeconomic factors, sources of pollution, and are most burdened by asthma, covid-19, and/or other chronic health conditions related to high levels of particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone (O3).activities:these funds will be used to engage five communities across new england in the healthy air network through creating factsheets, drafting emails and phone calls and hosting informational sessions; distributing at least 50 purpleair sensors, which will be calibrated and connected to the healthy air network website; and educating and training the communities on sensor troubleshooting, interpreting data and how to use data for advocacy and mitigation efforts.subrecipient:no subawards are included in this assistance agreement.outcomes:expected outcomes include the identification of increased environmental exposures and the need to enhance air quality monitoring in and by vulnerable new england communities and increased access to information and tools through healthy air network's publicly available website and ongoing educational opportunities (e.g., workshops, technical assistance, etc.) to increase understanding of environmental human health risks in these communities. The proposal's intermediate outcomes include the: communities investing and taking ownership over state/local policy actions and taking action to mitigate risks, such as requesting a policy for 'no recess' days or advocating for an electric bus fleet on certain bus routes based on the priorities and needs of the community. The project's long-term outcomes include the: reduction of air pollutant emissions and human exposure to particulate matter, and ozone levels, and improved air quality monitoring, climate resilience measures, and reduction in racial and health disparities in vulnerable new england communities.
