Description

This project proposes design and proof-of-concept validation via scalable laboratory prototyping of a megawatt (MW)-scale high-voltage multiphase dual-rotor generator (DRG) integrated with a multiphase passive rectifier for a power management and distribution (PMAD) system in a nuclear electric propulsion (NEP) system. In the NEP under study a nuclear reactor through a closed brayton cycle acting as a prime mover spins a multiphase (greater than 3-phase) DRG whose output is rectified with a passive rectifier before connecting to spacecraft's high-voltage DC (HVDC) bus.
