About this award
The New York State Education Department (NYSED) received a $110.4 million Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education under the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Program (CFDA 84.424) for the period July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. This grant supports NYSED's efforts to improve student academic achievement by expanding the capacity of states, local educational agencies, and schools to deliver comprehensive educational services across three primary service categories: providing students access to well-rounded education; improving school conditions for student learning; and enhancing technology utilization to advance academic achievement and digital literacy.
NYSED distributed the grant funds to 68 local educational agencies, school districts, and charter schools throughout New York State as sub-awards, with each recipient implementing programs aligned with the grant's core objectives. Sub-awardees utilized funding to support academic enrichment programs, professional development for educators, technology infrastructure upgrades, school safety initiatives, mental health support services, expanded pre-kindergarten access, language instruction programs, special education services, child nutrition programs, and COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. The formula-based distribution model ensured equitable access to federal resources across diverse school districts and student populations, from large urban districts like Yonkers Public Schools and Buffalo City School District to smaller rural districts, enabling comprehensive student support services and academic improvement initiatives statewide.
