About this award

The Office of Elementary and Secondary Education awarded $164.6 million in formula grant funding to the California Department of Education through the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants program (CFDA 84.424) for the period of July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. The program enhances student academic achievement by expanding the capacity of states, local educational agencies (LEAs), schools, and communities to deliver three primary service categories: providing students access to well-rounded education; improving school conditions for student learning; and enhancing technology utilization to advance academic achievement and digital literacy. Supported activities encompass academic enrichment programs, professional development for educators, technology infrastructure upgrades, school safety initiatives, and mental health support services.

As the state educational agency and pass-through entity, the California Department of Education distributed sub-awards from this grant to county offices of education and educational partnerships, including Sonoma County Office of Education, Madera County Superintendent of Schools, Los Angeles Education Partnership, and the University of California, Berkeley. These sub-awardees deliver direct services to local school districts, charter schools, and community-based organizations throughout California, ensuring that disadvantaged students in high-poverty schools gain improved access to well-rounded educational offerings, enhanced learning environments, and expanded technology resources to support academic success and digital literacy development.
