About this award
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) received a $15.7 million Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education under the Twenty-First Century Community Learning Centers program (CFDA 84.287) for the performance period of July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. This funding supports the establishment and expansion of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment and developmental services to school-aged children, particularly those attending high-poverty and low-performing schools. As the state educational agency and pass-through entity, DPI distributes these federal funds to local implementing organizations across Wisconsin to deliver out-of-school time programming including tutoring, homework assistance, mentoring, academic enrichment, and extracurricular activities in arts, music, sports, and cultural areas.
DPI sub-awarded 21st CCLC funds to 47 local school districts, educational organizations, and community-based entities throughout Wisconsin, including major recipients such as the Madison Metropolitan School District, Milwaukee Public Schools, Green Bay Area Public School District, and smaller rural districts in communities including Thorp, Solon Springs, and Pittsville. Sub-grantees also include non-profit organizations such as the Kenosha Young Mens Christian Association, United Community Center Inc., Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and the Irwin A. And Robert D. Goodman Community Center. These sub-awardees implement comprehensive after-school programming designed to supplement in-school instruction, support student academic achievement, and promote overall student development through federally-funded community learning centers operating outside regular school hours.
