About this award

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) was awarded a $51,374,438 Formula Grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Twenty-First Century Community Learning Centers program on July 1, 2023. This program provides opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities in community learning centers that offer academic enrichment and other support services for children, particularly students from high-poverty and low-performing schools.

As the prime grantee, ISBE has partnered with a number of non-profit organizations and school districts across Illinois to deliver authorized grant activities. Key sub-awardees include the Illinois Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, Northeastern Illinois University, Bloom Township High School District 206, and the City of Chicago. These sub-recipients are providing academic instruction, tutoring, enrichment programs, recreation, parent engagement, and professional development focused on improving student achievement, life skills, and overall well-being.
