Operating funds support day-to-day operational and maintenance expenses for public housing properties, including management and operations, routine and preventative maintenance, anti-crime and security activities, energy costs, resident supportive services, insurance, and administrative program implementation. The Housing Authority operates public housing serving lower-income families in Springfield, Missouri.
The Public Housing Operating Fund is a $5 billion program nationwide providing operating subsidies to approximately 6,000 housing authorities serving 1,590,321 public housing residents in 902,436 households, of which 44 percent are elderly and 35 percent include children. Funding supports the maintenance of services and minimum operating reserves. PHAs receive access to web-based platforms that provide real-time data on funding levels, occupancy rates, and families served.
