The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Public and Indian Housing Office awarded $480,577 to Southeast Georgia Consolidated Housing Authority on January 1, 2026, under the Public Housing Operating Fund (CFDA 14.850), a formula grant program providing operating subsidies to housing authorities for day-to-day operational and maintenance expenses.
Operating funds support management and operations, routine and preventative maintenance, anti-crime and security activities, energy costs, resident supportive services, insurance, debt service, and administrative expenses required under the Housing Act of 1937. The authority uses these funds to maintain safe, decent, and affordable housing for low-income residents in St. Marys, Georgia. The award period runs through December 31, 2030.
The Public Housing Operating Fund, a $5 billion program nationwide, serves approximately 6,000 housing authorities across 902,436 households with 1,590,321 residents, including elderly households and families with children. Housing authorities receive allocations based on submission of Operating Fund calculations (Form HUD-52723 and HUD-52722) and have access to web-based platforms providing real-time data on funding levels, occupancy rates, and families served.
