About this award

Federal Grant Award Summary

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG) received a Formula Grant award of $186,430 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) under the Sport Fish Restoration program (CFDA 15.605) to improve the Homedale Boating Access Site located on the south bank of the Snake River in Owyhee County, Idaho. The award period runs from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. Under this grant, IDFG will partner with Owyhee County to enhance the existing boat ramp and dock facility, addressing current accessibility limitations that restrict usability during low water periods from August through March. The improvements will create a safer, more user-friendly recreational boating access site for anglers and other water recreationists.

The Sport Fish Restoration program provides funding to state fish and wildlife agencies to support activities that restore, conserve, manage, and enhance sport fish populations while improving public access to recreational fishing and boating opportunities. Through the cooperative agreement between IDFG and Owyhee County, this award directly fulfills the program's objective of enhancing boating access to public waters, enabling increased recreational use of the Snake River resource by the regional boating and angling community.

Description

The homedale boating access site is an existing boat ramp and parking area located on the south bank of the snake river, directly north of the homedale high school football field, approximately 0.4 MI downstream (NW) of the HWY 95 bridge crossing the snake river. Just upstream, adjacent to the ramp, is a float-and-piling style dock, as well as a loading area created by the bulkhead. This access site property is owned and operated by owyhee county, but idaho department of fish and game (IDFG) recognized the opportunity to partner with the county on improving the ramp to increase its utility for recreational boaters to include anglers and other recreationists. Currently, the ramp is not fully useable, particularly during the low water period between august through march. IDFG and owyhee county, through means of a memorandum of agreement, have partnered together to improve the site, utilizing sport fish restoration (boating access) funds, which will provide a safer, more user-friendly access site.
