About this award
This $11,000,000 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service under the Sport Fish Restoration program (CFDA 15.605) will fund modifications to the Bear Canyon Dam in New Mexico. The project will improve the dam's structural integrity by armoring the embankment with roller-compacted concrete, allowing it to serve as an auxiliary spillway. This will maintain the existing spillway while converting the top width of the dam into a secondary spillway. The project aims to address the dam's current high hazard classification and poor condition. The award period runs from August 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025, and the work will be performed by the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish, a state government entity.
