Description
The project scope includes design, permitting, environmental review, and community engagement to complete phase one of this project. There are four main components to consider: replacement and renovation of the boat launch ramp system, installation of a new kayak ramp adjacent to the existing ramp replacement of the damaged bulkhead system, addition of americans with disabilities act (ADA)-compliant access features. The city of sausalito is one of the oldest communities in marin, and IT has many qualities that are important to preserve. This city s natural beauty and central location have created multiple, growing pressures unique to the city s character and composition. Sausalito is situated between richardson BAY and the marin headlands, across the golden gate bridge from SAN francisco (map 1). Richardson BAY is a popular community hotspot where boating recreation can be conveniently accessed from the turney street dock location (map 2). However, the current age and condition of this dock render IT virtually unusable to residents and visitors (photo 1 and photo 2). Renovations and repairs are needed to create a launch site that can be used safely by the community and visitors. IT is important to note that much of sausalito has remained as IT was 70 years ago, after world war II and throughout the city s transition from the marinship to civilian use. Residents are strongly committed to preserving the existing character and community assets within the city. Amenities that improve recreational access must be considered when implementing city improvements. This consideration applies to improvements needed for the turney street dock.over the years, sausalito has evolved along the water s edge. IT has transformed into an increasingly vibrant community that shares a strong, interconnected relationship with richardson BAY. This proposal will focus on the design, permit process, environmental considerations, and community engagement necessary for the renovation of the turney street dock. This proposed renovation provides the opportunity to address multiple concerns that impact this area. We will delve into many of these considerations in the following section.
