Description

We know little of the inter- and intra-basin movements of avarious fisheries species within mississippi sound and the surrounding waters. These data are useful from amanagement standpoint to gather data on the timing of life-history related movements (e.g., spawning, immigration emigration, residence in subsystems) and use of habitats being restored or proposed for restorationpurposes. Furthermore, and understanding of the timings of movements in off shore may provide insight ofdifferential fishing pressure between mississippis waters, federal waters, and those of other states. Acoustictelemetry data from the itag network and other sharing networks will be downloaded obtained along with data fromnearby telemetry users (mdmr, gcrl, other local universities, etc.). These data will be compiled into onetelemetry database and qaqced in order to streamline the data sharing process. Data compilations expected to take place monthly as new data are obtained by each user group. Additionally, environmental and hydrological data will be compiled from a variety of sources to be used in conjunction with acoustic telemetry data for future analyses.data will be downloaded from existing acoustic receivers and analyzed in conjunction with telemetry data compiledfrom other sources for targeted species previously tagged by mdmr and the gcrl (i.e. red drum, southern flounder, grey snapper, and atlantic tripletail) as well as for additional species tagged in the future. Participants aim to summarize results and develop visualizations to examine the space use of these various species in MS waters and beyond. Results will be compared across multiple regions and presented to mdmr and regional stakeholders.
