About this award

The Department of Housing and Urban Development's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development awarded $1,178,324 to the County of Nassau Office of Community Development on February 27, 2026, under the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program, CFDA 14.231, a formula grant supporting homelessness intervention and housing stability.

ESG funds support five program components: street outreach, emergency shelter operations and rehabilitation, homelessness prevention, rapid re-housing assistance with rental support, and Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) data coordination. Funds may also support administrative activities. The County of Nassau, doing business as the Office of Housing and Community Development, operates the grant activities entirely within Hempstead, New York.

The period of performance runs from February 27, 2026, through February 26, 2028. The grant enables the County to engage homeless individuals and families living unsheltered, rehabilitate or convert buildings into emergency shelters, operate those shelters, provide essential services to shelter residents, and rapidly rehouse homeless individuals and families while preventing others from experiencing homelessness. Recipients under ESG must establish and maintain records sufficient to demonstrate compliance with program requirements; records pertaining to each fiscal year must be retained for the greater of five years or the period specified under 24 CFR 576.500(y).
