About this award
The City of Yonkers received a $298,845 Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development (CFDA 14.231), effective September 16, 2025 through September 15, 2027. The ESG program provides formula-based funding to eligible state and local government entities to address homelessness and housing instability through five core service components: street outreach services to engage unsheltered individuals and families; emergency shelter rehabilitation, conversion, and operations; essential services provision to shelter residents; homelessness prevention assistance; and rapid re-housing services with rental assistance and housing stabilization support. Additionally, funds may support Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) activities for data collection and coordination, as well as administrative activities necessary for program implementation.
Through this award, the City of Yonkers will engage homeless populations living on streets, improve the capacity and quality of emergency shelter facilities, support shelter operations, and facilitate rapid transitions to permanent housing for individuals and families experiencing housing crises. The city is required to maintain detailed records for five years and comply with federal regulations under 24 Code of Federal Regulations Part 576. As a formula grant recipient, Yonkers' allocation was determined through established federal distribution criteria rather than through competitive application.
