The Department of Homeland Security US Coast Guard awarded the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission $2,822,284 under the Boating Safety Financial Assistance program (CFDA 97.012) on October 1, 2025, for the period October 1, 2025 through September 30, 2028.
The funding supports recreational boating safety activities including facilities, equipment, and supplies for boating safety education and law enforcement; personnel training in boating safety skills and enforcement of boating safety regulations; public boating safety education through programs and lectures to the boating community and public schools; acquisition, construction, or repair of public access sites used by recreational boaters; boating safety inspections and marine casualty investigations; emergency and search and rescue facilities and assistance; waterway markers and aids to navigation; and state recreational vessel numbering and titling programs. The program operates in North Carolina, with performance continuing through September 30, 2028. This is a formula grant, which is the standard assistance type for state recreational boating safety programs under CFDA 97.012.
