About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded Rhode Island DOT $270,268.39 on October 1, 2025, under the National Priority Safety Programs formula grant (CFDA 20.616), Section 405(g) Nonmotorized Safety Grant authority, to support programs that decrease nonmotorized road user fatalities involving motor vehicles.
Rhode Island qualified for this funding because the state's annual combined nonmotorized road user fatalities exceed 15 percent of the state's total annual crash fatalities, as determined by NHTSA using the most recent calendar year for which final FARS data are available. The award funds countermeasure strategies and projects detailed in Rhode Island's approved Triennial Highway Safety Plan and Annual Grant Application, targeting reductions in crashes, injuries, and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes involving pedestrians and cyclists.
The period of performance runs through September 30, 2029. Work is performed in Providence, Rhode Island.
The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council received a sub-award (69A3752630000405GRI0-BGSP2602, awarded October 1, 2025) to deliver the 405G WRWC Red Shed Bicycle Safety Programs for Youth.
