About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety $571,502.53 under the National Priority Safety Programs formula grant (CFDA 20.616) on October 1, 2025, to support Section 405(G) nonmotorized safety programs reducing pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities involving motor vehicles. The award funds countermeasure strategies and programming to decrease crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving nonmotorized road users, delivered through an approved triennial highway safety plan and annual grant application that identify problem areas, establish performance measures, and detail specific projects aligned with evidence-based safety countermeasures. Arizona qualified for this funding because the state's annual combined nonmotorized road user fatalities exceed 15 percent of total annual crash fatalities, as determined by NHTSA using the most recent final FARS data. The period of performance runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029, with performance occurring in Phoenix, Arizona. Funds are apportioned using the statutory formula and reimbursed on vouchers covering documented costs. The recipient administers the award in its capacity as Arizona's State Highway Safety Office.
