About this award
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Connecticut Department of Transportation $3.335 million on October 1, 2025, under the State and Community Highway Safety formula grant program (CFDA 20.600) to conduct highway safety programs aligned with Connecticut's approved Highway Safety Plan.
The award funds behavioral highway safety countermeasures designed to reduce traffic crashes, deaths, injuries, and property damage through projects and initiatives identified in the state's triennial planning and annual grant application. Connecticut's recent NHTSA portfolio encompasses impaired driving countermeasures, occupant protection initiatives, distracted driving awareness, nonmotorized safety programs, and traffic records data system improvements.
The funding period runs from October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029, with place of performance in Newington, Connecticut. As the designated state highway safety office, Connecticut receives the apportioned formula grant funds and distributes them to sub-recipients including municipalities, transit districts, and local public bodies for eligible local transportation projects. The program operates as a federal-state partnership in which states retain flexibility in determining projects and spending priorities based on problem identification within their jurisdictions.
