About this award
The Nevada Department of Public Safety received a $105,600.33 federal Formula Grant award on October 1, 2023 from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the National Priority Safety Programs (CFDA 20.616). This funding supports the State's occupant protection programs, including activities to increase seat belt usage and reduce motor vehicle crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
The grant enables the Nevada Department of Public Safety to partner with various sub-grantees, such as county governments, non-profit organizations, hospitals, and educational institutions, to deliver a range of services. These include child passenger safety education, transportation safety initiatives, parenting support programs, traffic records system improvements, and public awareness campaigns. The sub-awards fund activities across the state to address critical highway safety priorities and implement evidence-based countermeasures in alignment with the State's approved highway safety plan.
Description
Section 405(b) funding is available to qualifying states that meet statutory requirements for a high or low seat belt use categories. These funds are apportioned using statutory apportionment formula. These funds are provided to the state and territorial highway safety offices based on an approved triennial highway safety plan that details problem identification, public participation and engagement, performance measures, countermeasure strategies for programming funds and an approved annual grant application that details planned projects using identified countermeasure strategies for programming funds to help reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities resulting from motor vehicle crashes.
