About this award

The Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WSTC) received a $7.679 million formula grant award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) under the State and Community Highway Safety program (CFDA 20.600) for the period of October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2025.

As the designated state highway safety office, WSTC will administer and oversee highway safety programs aimed at reducing traffic crashes, deaths and injuries on roads within Washington state. The grant funding will support WSTC's coordination and implementation of data-driven, statewide initiatives focused on occupant protection, impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding and other behaviors contributing to crashes. Programs may include public awareness campaigns, law enforcement training and high-visibility enforcement efforts. As a sub-awardee, the Washington Department of Public Instruction will assist with safety programs targeting younger drivers.
