About this award

The Federal Highway Administration awarded the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation $462,869.19 on July 20, 2026, for replacement of the SR 1014 bridge over SR 309 (Overbrook Road over Memorial Highway) in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, under the Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (CFDA 20.287).

The project consists of replacing the existing single-span concrete encased steel I-beam bridge with a single-span prestressed concrete adjacent box beam bridge featuring two 11-foot lanes and 8-foot shoulders. Work includes roadway approach pavement reconstruction, shoulder widening to 5 feet on both sides, guide rail replacement, erosion and sediment control measures, temporary traffic control, signing and pavement marking, and structure removal. The SR 309 corridor beneath the bridge will receive mill and overlay, full-depth paving, and permanent soil nail slope construction using staged construction. The roadway profiles of both SR 1014 and SR 309 will be adjusted to meet vertical clearance requirements. Construction will proceed while traffic is detoured.

Performance occurs in Dallas Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, along SR 1014 Section 370 from approximately 2.1 miles west of Huntsville to approximately 0.3 miles east of Fern Brook. The period of performance extends from the award date through April 11, 2030. This is a formula grant assistance type.
