About this award
The Federal Highway Administration awarded the Minnesota Department of Transportation $160,000 under the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transportation (PROTECT) program on April 7, 2026. The award funds a planning activity to prioritize locations for flood risk assessment and apply the MN/DOT Flood Risk Assessment Tool to the highest-priority sites. The tool evaluates flood risks affecting roadways, bridges, and culverts and assesses the efficacy of flood risk reduction strategies. Performance extends through June 30, 2030, within Minnesota. The PROTECT program provides grants to strengthen surface transportation resilience to natural hazards including climate change, flooding, and extreme weather events through planning activities and resilience improvements.
